A late 18th Century Directoire Mahogany Commode still life 19th Century Viola Marble ToppedA late 18th Century Directoire commode, the top with shaped ends above three long panelled drawers, all mounted with brass lion mask handles and crown escutcheons, between fluted column ends and all raised upon turned tapering feet. The Directoire style was essentially born of the architects and designers Charles Percier (17641838) and Pier Franois Lonard Fontaine (17621853). The Directoire Period in the arts, ran concurrently with the post Revolution
