It uses its pinching claws only in self defense. It has a pair of feeding nets which are near constantly spread in the water to catch particulate foods. It can also feed on scraps of fish food. The Purple Porcelain crab needs plenty of rockwork in order to feel secure. Additions of zooplankton will help ensure the crab gets enough food. Porcelain crabs grow up to 2 inches.
