Mid 19th Century Red Striped Children's Tabi Shoes (3) Textiles This antique metal container originatesThese beautiful quaint shoes are known as tabi shoes and they originated in Japan, specifically Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, within the Showa period. They are hand stitched out of strips of black and red fabric, which gives it that lovely patterned design. The interior is lined with cotton, and the shoes can fasten with ties at the front. They show traces of actual use as there are some wear and tear on the soles. These shoes would be perfect
